The author was acquainted with Van Gogh before he move to France, and the majority of this slight book briefly reviews some of the formative currents of his life. It has the feel about it of an attempt to cast all in a rather rosy light.Worthwhile for the brief (and sanitized) account of some major threads of Van Gogh's life and a sense of the language and pretenses of the era in which he lived.
