Alphonse Mucha (Czech, 1860-1939) virtually invented Art Nouveau as it applied to graphic design. Hired by happenstance to design a poster for one of Sarah Bernhardt's theatrical productions, he finished it in just a few days.The profoundly innovative poster earned its creator instant fame. Before the poster, Mucha had been a capable illustrator and painter who kept his 'real' art safely in the Academic mode. I ordered this as a wall calendar for my house. The quality is superb & despite it being hung in a bathroom, the calendar has yet to wilt or tear. The illustrations are bright & lovely.
